37 ani
Graduated the University of Bucharest (2006) with a degree in Communication, Public Relations and Advertising. Currently working in Advertising (for 11 yrs. now). Previous co-owner of two commercial photography studios. Stopped that. Kept the artsy side, the one that doesn’t get paid. Working in multi-media, using photography and writing as main media. Not being able to follow patterns or pre-imposed themes, not being able to focus and stay on topic. Shooting only if feeling like it. Rarely being able to follow a long term project or series. Lazy and impatient. Procrastinator. Getting bored fast. A slave of mood swings. And a bit dark.

Born, young, lives in Zagreb, Belgrade, Zemun and Split, a representative of Japanese-French, children and parents, Eastern-European, never-a-slave, Czech and Polish, Yugoslav, prime colour, first movement, opposite dimensions, grey animation, eminence and luminance, art and science, a film without an end, the sound of old machines, the roar of Košava wind, and other winds - Mistral, Bora and Sirocco, a discreet innocence of vice, a comrade for a comrade, made for Chinese market, quality goods, mass production, and just enough extravagance, black on white, a dot and an end, and an end and a dot. Will die old. Maybe not.

‘I don’t ask myself too often whether I am an artist or a designer, simply because I think in many ways these two categories interfere one to another. Of course, my education is based on art study and practice, but this is just a background if we consider design something more than just its definition. At the Academy (in Cluj-Napoca) I studied Ceramics, although I intended to go for Graphics or Painting departments. ‘I don’t ask myself too often whether I am an artist or a designer, simply because I think in many ways these two categories interfere one to another. In 2003 she graduated from the Faculty of Visual Arts Oradea, department of sculpture. She worked at the Brukenthal National Museum, specializing in stone restoration. She developed projects of museum education for high school students, with several exhibitions in the Museum. Inspired by the objects and equipment scrapped from the museum, she develops a personal conceptual project, named “Hunt for garbage”, being convinced that nothing's going to disappear, that everything reinvents itself. As a result, her art projects are based, for the most part, on found, collected or received objects, of both emotional and aesthetic value. They remain hopelessly rooted in the social sphere and can be characterized as part of an actionalism, an analysis of the social and human life. In addition to the actionalism, they are dynamic and have a sense of inner excitement.

Concept Machine
Bucuresti,Romania
We are Concept Machine branding and design studio. For us, design is not the destination; design is the way to get things done. This means that first comes the thinking, then the designing. We use design in order to touch the prior set objectives, to build the prior imagined concepts, to deliver the story that we believe in. Since our birth in 2009 we’ve pled for this important and meaningful role of design; its power to gather people, to make people dream, love and react. We’ve told this story again and again. We try to educate the customers on the power of this tool. In 2014 we felt that our manifesto for the importance of design should take its own shape, as an extension of Concept Machine, and we have created Design Driven (www.designdriven.ro).

Nichita Cristian is a visual artist and art director working in advertising. His first friendship with pencils started before he can reach the light switch and then became a life changing experience. His artworks are the result of a "distillation" process from the traditional painting to the black and white graphic. The detailed parts of his drawings they continuously open up new interpretations of the image. It is possible to view them on macro and micro levels at the same time. This gives a special dynamic visual pleasure what he calls "Christmas to your eyes". Each work has its own gravitational field which irresistibly forces us to zoom in, explore more, discover new aspects within the whole. He is influenced by the inner and outer circles of his environment.

In 2004 he graduated Graphics Department of Fine Arts from the University of Arts and Design, Cluj Napoca, where he obtained also a master's degree in 2006. Due skills, was employed at the University Silkscreen Technician for a year but seeing that can't develop his own projects moved back with his parents in Sibiu to implement them. For this to happen had to reset his thinking, to move to a level of conceptual art practiced outside, thus avoiding a mimicry skills that risked label him as part of the "School of Cluj". Becoming aware of the power of thought became interested to reflect visually as simple and direct. So he started to experiment new materials and techniques of expression that is amenable to its concepts, which made his artistic approaches atypical, thus hard to sell. Which is why more known now as "the guy with Love". I do not know if you've heard of him, but he does some cool things with love on various materials, clothing, walls, places which interferes. Though he preferes alternative spaces he also exhibited in known galleries like Ivan Gallery (EN) 26 Gallery (RO), Victoria Art Centre (RO), Sala Dalles (RO) Trypthycon (GER), Tempelhof Hangars (GER), Visual Kontakt (GER), Program Gallery (POL), Pavilion (RO), 53 Carol (RO) Studiobruck (RO) Steambox (IRL), Atelier 030202 (RO), Galateca (RO). He even worked for a while with Anca Poteraşu Gallery with whom he succeeded at Preview Berlin art fair. It might have to turn to Europe but he chose to remain in Romania to change things, reason why now he curates and works within Nostru’s group, the only one contemporary art resistance in Sibiu.

"I was born in the Republic of Moldova but I grew up in a family of economic emigrants in Greece and I am currently studying in Romania. I never managed to form my own national identity; I never felt that I belong somewhere. That's the reason I feel that I'll keep living my life on the road. For this project I decided to go back to Greece, the place where the waters of my identity were stirred. I decided to dedicate this project to all the people that had shared the same experience. I met with 32 individuals, most of them women. While they were talking to me, I would see me parent’s faces reflected to theirs. As for the teenagers, we managed to achieve a deeper bond and communication due to our mutual experiences. All these people opened up to me and shared their personal stories regarding their journey. These personal tales you will find written on paper by each and everyone's proper hand at the exhibition that takes place at UNAgaleria. This project is an effort to familiarize the audience with this traumatic experience, the psychological phenomena, the difficulties of adaptation to a new society and the dangers that follow the exploration of such issues as xenophobia and racism." Foley’Ala (Bucharest/RO): Alin Zăbrăuţeanu – sound artist: composition, foley, electronics, live processing Marian „Rufi” Cîtu – sound artist: composition, foley, electronics, live processing Alexandra Andrieş – sound artist: electronics, percussion, voice Flora Pop – violin Radu Rădescu – percussion, texts Foley'Ala is a band born in 2013 as an ad-hoc formula of live scoring & sound design for silent film screenings. The four members create an original acoustic ambient, played live as a quasi-improvisation in order to (re)build the soundtrack for films that have marked the history of cinema. The solution found is close to the particular approach of solving radio theater sound mixing (live foley), where, over a prefabricated layout, processed acoustic musical elements interfere with digital sampling techniques, combined with played instruments. By the use of electronics (live processing), the band seeks to achieve unprecedented exploration areas, specific to synthesizer’s era. The first three members of the band are teammates in The Alien Marching Band, an experiment of improvised electronic music. The 2013 Foley'Ala project was the film "The Wind" (USA, 1928, directed by Victor Sjöström), presented at an important number of festivals: Historical Film Festival in Râşnov, Roşia Montană’s FânFest, Dracula Film Festival in Braşov, Alba Iulia Music & Film Festival, "No Silence, please!" series at the Czech Center in Bucharest, as well as at independent events held in unconventional locations: the courtyard of the Evangelical Church in Mediaş and The Old Mill from Hosman (Sibiu county). The band performed live musical interventions at the “Zodiac Poetry" in Ploiesti and at the Călin Derzelea’s "Tellus" video poems recital in Roşia Montană. In 2014, the band has added to its portfolio two new silent films: "Tabu" (USA, 1931, directed by Friedrich Wilhelm Murnau) and "Gold Rush" (USA, 1925, directed by Charles Chaplin), with live screenings at Cisnădioara (TIFF Sibiu), Mediaş, Râşnov (Historical Film Festival) and Roşia Montană (FânFest). “C'est réaliste un puzzle surréaliste?” a selection of three French avant-garde (dada and surrealistic) short films is the 2015 group’s project, presented at festivals in Bucharest, Iaşi, Sibiu, Râşnov and Mediaş. In 2016 Foley’Ala has a new premiere, the sound-design for the expressionist film “Genuine – The Tale of a Vampire” (Germany, 1920, directed by Robert Wiene). Famous Romanian film critics Irina Margareta Nistor and Tudor Caranfil were often invited to introduce the film and music performances of the band.

The elements that are composing us and contributes to the genesis of the worlds, our training as individuals forming a context which reach a certain behavior and evolution, raise many questions. My thoughts and works are divided between traditional cosmogonies, Edenic hydrography, light as wave and particle, bioluminescence of the bodies, equilibrium state in a dynamic context, social rituals and reflections about space, time and collective memory.”

Livia Mateiaş is part of the young generation of Romanian visual artists. Among her interests we can find the cosmic inspired art, offering a fresh vision on subjects like teleportation, space flight, cosmic microwave background etc. Her artworks are created in a wide range of mediums (graphics, mixed and digital media, performance, multimedia installations), all being commonly animated by the cosmic theme. In the artist’s vision, COSMOS is one of the greatest mysteries, which in the process of transposing it into art, becomes a way to transcend the boundaries of the known universe, by immersing in a visually-imaginary universe, full of energy, contrast, tensions, light and color. She was born January 13, 1986 in Salonta, Romania. Currently lives and works in Timisoara. She attended Bachelor, Master and Doctoral programs at the West University of Timisoara, Faculty of Arts and Design. In 2013 presents her PhD thesis entitled: Expressive Forms of Outer Spatiality in the Artistic Postmodern Experience. Since 2009 she is a member of the Romanian Fine Arts Union and from 2015 she is activating in Avantpost group. Livia Mateiaș is co-founder of artouching, a playground dedicated to promoting digital artistic creation in cultural and private sectors.

Mara Nicolae studied Painting at the University of fine Arts in Bucharest and along her Master studies she is given the opportunity of a scholarship in Italy at the Academia Albertina di Belle Arte in Torino. While studying there she discovers the technique of sculpture and confesses that working with matter allows her, as an artist, to have the optimal visual solution in her plastic discourse. From 2012 Mara lives and works both in Bucharest and in Paris and the last six moths she has spent in China where she documented ceramic techniques and has begun sketching her latest project. She sets her artistic discourse in-between lines, she draws shapes. The outline of her figures only offers guidance to the viewer, a subtle direction of itinerary leaving them a wide perspective of choice. They are meant to be like the content of a book one reads more than once and discovers each time, a separate and, hopefully, a deeper understanding of its meaning. She creates traces of the past where viewers are to decide, in each outline, their own path into the future.

My great interest in performing itself is attention. I can see it as a choreographer, a writer, director and a doorman at the gate to transformations. In the future I would like to keep working on understanding what the base of experience is, phenomenologically and cognitively, scientifically and spiritually. Dreamwise I will be creating multidisciplinary ventures, full of music, movement and lively expression, and as deviating from reality as possible.

Tomas Motal

My name is Tomáš Motal. I come from Prague, Czech Republic, where I work and live. I have a carver degree and I have also graduated at the Faculty of Arts in Ostrava as a painter. The fact that I graduated as a carver is very important to me as it enables me to work with material in 3D besides 2D. I mainly consider myself a visual artist. I draw comics to which I write my own screenplays and I also consider myself to be a musician as I am the lead singer and a lyricist in a band called Schwarzprior. The main sources of my inspiration are Noir, hardboiled school, mystery, horror and sci-fi. I also like movies from David Fincher, David Cronenberg, Alfred Hitchcock and David Lynch. I grew up reading comics by a Czech legend, Kája Saudek and my favourite authors from abroad are Frank Miller, Charles Burns, Bill Szienkievitz, Mike Mignola and others.
