The autumn season started with the addition of a new name in AnnArt gallery’s portfolio, a well-known name on the local fine arts scene and with a significant international activity: Maurice Mircea Novac, with his solo exhibition "The Road to Las Palmas". The selection brings together a collection of 10 works in oil on canvas and 8 collages, critically examined in an accompanying essay by art historian Aurelia Mocanu. MAURICE ISLAND | Aurelia Mocanu * Novac keeps an eye on anything that represents figurative metabolic movements in the painting. His most recent motif is an empathic challenge: tropical and harsh, at the same time: succulent chromatic proliferation of cacti as vectors of spaces and textures. Unabated, in Maurice's laboratory the surface of the painting participates in the narrative beat of the image. Moreover, Novac distinguishes itself, with the ethics of elegance, from the new wave of figurative Romanian painting after 1990. For he still has powers of perception close to the untamed romantic landscape. The canvas on the easel becomes an energy focal point, a "window" of light. They are magmas of chromatic intersections, deriving photorealism, as a colorful fabric of the world of elements, in the retinal kaleidoscope.
