Atelier 030202
Sfanta Vineri nr. 11

Atelier 030202 Gallery is a platform for contemporary art based in Bucharest (RO), dedicated to young artists, curators, art historians and cultural managers that share a passion for experimentation and innovation in contemporary art. Atelier 030202 Gallery is a non-profit art space hosted in the New Hall of the Comedy Theatre, where artistic events coexist with contemporary theater plays and with art interventions of all kinds such as experimental music, performance art, contemporary dance, video projections, installations and urban art. Through a carefully selected program, the gallery has gained a consistent multicultural visual identity. We have a strong curatorial program, but we welcome challenging and consistent proposals. We are open to partnerships with Romanian and international artists and curators, as well as with other institutions and organisations in the art field. Our numerous projects exhibited at Atelier 030202 Gallery have created a unique identity and a new vibe by boosting the educational and cultural Romanian scene through a direct and interactive dialogue between the artists and the viewer. Atelier 030202 Gallery, whose name was borrowed from its location’s zip code, has so far hosted the following major events: NAG#4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 10 (The White Night of the Galleries), WEG#1, 2, 3 (The Art Weekend of the Galleries), Arte în București#7, IEEB#4, 5, 6, 7 (International Experimental Engraving Biennial), Ebienale#2 (“George Enescu” International Contemporary Art Biennial) BB#6, 7, 8 (Bucharest Biennale), RDW (Romanian Design Week) and Vienna Fair, 10th Edition. Also, the gallery has collaborated in the realization of several contemporary art exhibitions and conferences with the following institutions: Faculty of Arts and Design in Timisoara, National University of Arts in Bucharest, Comedy Theatre, Austrian Cultural Forum, Embassy of Mexico in Romania, CNDB (National Centre of Dance Bucharest) and AFCN (Administration of the National Cultural Fund). Atelier 030202 Gallery was founded in December 2009, 20 years after the fall of Communism in Romania, by visual artist and curator Mihai Zgondoiu.

"Genu Berlo is processing constructs which underlying foundation is not the intuition per se; he quite actually relegate the latest to a secondary layer, staying on the lookout, being afraid that this intuition could interfere with his personal unpredictable "primitivism". Furthermore, this "primitivism" is more of a mental nature rather than tribal, finding its expression in the sort of "postmodern conceptual artefacts" of land art type (see the sculpture-installation), and in a kind of syncretism beyond currents and times, combining the Lascaux cave painting virtues with a Nolde or Kirchner's expressionistic ability." (Marius Tanasescu) "Predictable Constructs project explores the curious relationship between the Mind and the Self. The Constructs are natural developments of the Self, with the Mind being the medium of its expression. I feel that the paintings, structures and matter on display are subjective projections on the medium, the incarnation of belief systems, mind sets, manners and personal habits. But make no mistake, they are raised to ranks of artefacts and trophies collected during social games and creative hunts, becoming the basis for the character, the persona, for the inner temple of the Self. Once formed, the Mind-Medium is accessed in patterned ways, generated by Predictable Constructs. To start with, I found a very powerful Construct to be the very natural drive of the persona to “NQ”, conveying to a real-illusory Social Ego. “BS” and “MS” are powerful structures curbing our faculties of feeling, thinking and fruitful sharing in coexistence. “SB” comes from my imagination of ascetic practices combined with genetic breathing, leading to lack of joy and poor body flow. Access to long term memory and “VLTM” is denied at every step in our communities, or rather replaced by immediate needs and enforced inutility. The identity amnesia “IA” leads to limited reference, and puts social convention on the pedestal. “ET” limits your amygdala’s instant reactions and thus creates a lack of confidence." (Genu Barlo)
