Jewish State Theater
Strada Iuliu Barasch 15 (zona Sf. Vineri – Udriște)

Teatrul Evreiesc de Stat (TES, the State Jewish Theater) in Bucharest, Romania is a theater specializing in Jewish-related plays. It is the oldest Yiddish-language theater with uninterrupted activity in the world. Its contemporary repertoire includes plays by Jewish authors, plays on Jewish topics, and plays in Yiddish (which are performed with simultaneous translation into Romanian, using headphones installed in the theater in the 1970s). Many of the plays also feature Jewish actors. A precursor, the Teatru Evreiesc Baraşeum operated as a Jewish theater through most of World War II, although they were closed during the few months of the National Legionary State, and thereafter performed in Romanian rather than Yiddish through until the fall of Ion Antonescu.

The State Jewish Theater participates in this year's White Night of the Galleries cultural project with the Mamelushn Art exhibition, which brings to the public's attention the world of theater, stories and favorite characters seen through a special perspective, that of the innocence of childhood. The exhibition will include works made by children who are passionate about art in all its aspects: theater, music, painting, graphics, literature, dance, etc. We invite you to join us in supporting the little great artists together, as a way to encourage free expression through art from the youngest ages and to watch the fascinating world of theater where stories and characters come to life, through a simple colored pencil and lots of imagination. The event will be presented to the public in the TES Gallery space within the State Jewish Theater starting October 1, at 6:00 p.m. The entry is free!
