The Other Is Not My Negation Alone one can`t see oneself The concept was born in 2018 out of the will to establish a dialogue with the unfamiliar existent in the works of my fellow colleagues of generation. The aim was to try and accept the differences and overcome the preconceptions that are perceived as destructive in my own artistic development. The main idea expressed in the title refers to the fact that we can only be true, real, aware of what and who we are by relating to the other. Only through the Other can I get to know myself and to discover the natural of the authentic. When one is aware that his identity consists in honesty, the need to pretend that you can be anyone disappears and you look inside yourself discovering your limits and incapacities. When you accept yourself comes courage, and the novelty of one‘s vision represents what the other doesn't see in himself because everyone resonates differently to the inner and outer reality. The Other-Artist, the opposite of subjectivity, by artistic option, style, themes, technique, doesn't cancel me as an individual, he completes me. By accepting our own means of expression - photography, painting, object, installation - we prove the coexistence of contraries and we place ourselves on an objective trajectory of self evaluation. I am what I am and not what is expected of me. In the same time, in order to perceive the differences as constructive and creative impulses a self analysis of the artistic self is necessary. Thus, we ask ourselves, how much inner space has the self in order to comprise the inventiveness, the uniqueness of the other given that the negation is excluded ? I therefore invited and challenged at the same time 4 artists in order to develop and enrich the complexity of thought by expanding the project in future dynamic exhibition chapters that will benefit from each of our specific visions. As a confirmation of the fact that we need the other in order to be I chose as a first subtitle Ana Petrovici-Popescu‘s statement: Alone one can`t see oneself. (text by Nada Stîngu, artist-curator)
