Eveniment NAG
John Murphy prefers white wine to black pepper
19:00 - 21:00artist: Mirela Ivanciu
curator: Anca Mihulet
Mirela Ivanciu's intervention in the Botanical Museum in Bucharest has been motivated by the revisiting of her artistic practice from the last 10 years, most of it inspired by the botanical and zoological world, but also from the direct observations and the research realised in diverse locations, like Marianne North's house in Kew Gardens or the natural history museum in Maastricht.
Mirela Ivanciu will present a series of recent works, produced in the first part of this year, which she integrated in the visitation route of the museum. The artist has combined several materials, such as: ceramics, textile thread, sand paper or metal wire, in order to discuss her obsessions, the space between memories, image and words, the fragility of the textiles, also the posibilities they contain within. While preparing the project there has always been a referral to John Murphy and the universe of his creation, one of the critical sources of Mirela Ivanciu's art, not to mention that the Victorian obedience of the space of the Botanical Museum imposes a strict positioning towards the energy and the specifical economy of a place and the objects found in that place.
