The exhibition is parte of an international project and this is the third edition in Romania. It presents to world of folk art or singular art or neuve invention or just the art that is different. A wide and interesting world, in art brut we find everything that is not accepted as being part of established art movements. We find here the artists that are not educated, we find folk art and it's naive characteristics, but also the work of those artists who find that art is a therapy, of those who have shamanic features.
With a selection of artists from more than 5 countries around the world, the exhibition's goal is to bring to the eyes of the romanian people an art movement that is less known, but that is well represented by artists that are searching their ways in art.
Art brut: Jean Dubuffet's original 1945 term for the works that he collected and revered; later adopted by the Collection de l'Art at Lausanne. Art Brut means Raw Art. Raw because it is uncooked or unadulterated by culture. Raw because it is creation in its most direct and uninhibited form. Not only were the works unique and original but their creators were seen to exist outside established culture and society.
The term Outsider Art was originally intended to act as an exact English equivalent to Dubuffet's term, although Outsider Art has deeloped to encompass not only Art Brut but also works that the Laussanne Collection would not strictly designate as such. Outsider Art has not had the benefit of the unique protection surrounding Art Brut and the definition has undoubtedly become obscured by chronic mis-use since its introduction in 1972.
Folk art - a simple and direct term that has become much used – and over used. Originally pertaining to the indigenous crafts and decorative skills of peasant communities in Europe, the term was later applied to the simply made practical objects of colonial days – a combination of charm and practical craftmanship.
