Atelier35 Association's mission is to support the development of young artists and the potential of Romanian art.
We consider necessary to revitalize the concept behind Atelier 35, especially by inviting the young generation to be active members, to participate more strongly in the contemporary artistic phenomenon, with such means of expression very often considered courageous in the history of Atelier 35, when time might have been less favorable for new means of expression.

Looking for a perfect gentleman
20:00 - 04:00instalation
artists: Soyons Impossibles
curator: Simona Dumitriu
A man dressed only in a purple velvet robe recalling Hugh Hefner. He sits on a stool in paradise. He reads a text about love. Then answer questions about body self-awareness and self-representation of men, with scripted questions, the same indifferent of who stands before the camera and wears the gown for about 20 minutes. He can be an artist, a businessman, an intelligent guy, a friend. Being a gentleman he responds to false casting conditions.
But finding the perfect gentleman is only a pretext for a reverse objectifying experiment, in response to the universal search of a perfect lady, the perfect woman ethos, search endorsed by casting directors that ask you pose but also to "be natural", "to be yourself".
Adam and Eve in the post-feminist, androgynous, or neo-sexist context (it matters from which side of the gender studies you look) are or are not as you'd expect: a set of compatible reproductive mechanisms for which the glossy magazines and casting agencies for shampoo, toothpaste or waffles make role plays and scenarios that you expect to see in real life, to recognize them on the street or at home at the dining table. Standard questions of the two "casting directors" are part of this role play and in order to keep the agreement almost all dialogues are conducted in English. You can hear in the answers the search of the words, the language cliché theatricality corresponding to the sociological cliché of the questions. Emphasized by the character screen test for artistic film, the intimacy, uncertainty and sincerity of castings becomes post-interview also a statistical representation, psychological analysis and a content market.
Luce Irigaray writes about women's responsibility to reshape discourse into a form that does not keep by default a male subject, bringing language to access new meanings of knowledge. Soyons Impossibles group project responds to these conventional applications of feminist theory, and thus perhaps being a project for testing the limits of a female language to a number of subjects invited to treat it with seriousness as true gentlemen.
