SUPRAINFINIT Gallery
Strada Mântuleasa 22

Suprainfinit gallery highlights conceptual art practices with a focus on Eastern and Central European artists, represents emerging and mid-career artists. Driven to support newly commissioned works and large-scale installations, the gallery is a key pillar in the cultural ecosystem in Bucharest. Having recently expanded its curatorial framework with Sequence – a vitrine project and Saltmine – a temporary exhibition & performance programme underneath the main space, the gallery seeks to engage in a multilayered approach to artistic contexts and contents. Suprainfinit heralds the name of a plural and utopian universe created by artist collective Apparatus 22. The gallery was founded by Suzana Vasilescu in September 2015 and since January 2022 been co-directed with the Artistic Director of the gallery, Cristina Vasilescu.

Artist Rebekka Stuhlemer’s first solo exhibition at Suprainfinit Gallery presents a large-scale intervention on the facade of the gallery’s block, located in the Mântuleasa neighbourhood, as well as an installation composed of textile paintings within the gallery’s space. The artist’s pictorial compositions, colourful and fragmented, spread throughout their surroundings, inclusive of both the visible and the invisible. The membranous corporeality of the paintings rests in an unresolved tension with its environment, continuously modelling its shape. The artist’s works question the Western Cartesian concept of the individual, simultaneously transforming public spaces, such as parking lots, library rooms, and the facades of buildings. Exhibition curated by Cristina Vasilescu - The project is co-financed by the Municipal Council of Bucharest through ARCUB, part of the Affective Bucharest Programme 2022. The content of this project does not necessarily reflect the official viewpoint of the Municipal Council of Bucharest or ARCUB.
