The World Press Photo of the Year is the single photo that is considered to be the high point in photo journalism worldwide by displaying the visual creativity of the profession

World Press Photo is the most important competition for photojournalism. 

Started in 1955: 42 photographers from 11 countries submitted just over 300 photos for judging. 

All photos submitted in the competition are open to the public through the annual World Press Photo exhibition organized in about 100 locations in 45 countries and is seen by more than 3.5 million people worldwide. 

In 2013, the winners were selected from over 100,000 images submitted to the contest: 5,666 PHOTOGRAPHERS, 124 NATIONALITIES, 103,481PICTURES
