Opened in the fall of 2011, Art Yourself Gallery is a space to promote contemporary art and a set of core values of any present society: torerance, anti-discrimination, solidarity.
Through a complex exhibition program and a series of events that will interpose to openings, Art Yourself Gallery aims to create an accessible platform for communication between contemporary artists and the public.
Three of the goals that we intend from the beginning are: a rigorous selection of artists, consistent exhibitions and pertinent advice for our collectors in purchasing art. Supporting the growing trend of contemporary art market and actively contributing to accelerate the growth rate are the team’s goals at Yourself Art.

From London to Bucharest. SUPER ZEROES by Hin Art

19:00 - 04:00
exhibition

artist: Hin Art (UK)
curators: Anca Tatomir, Dragoș Farmazon

Superzeroes is Philip Pak Hin Chiu's (HIN) latest series of artworks exhibited for the first time in Bucharest, a solo project bearing the same name.
For this solo exhibition HIN's artworks focus on the Superhero - a stereotype of mass culture and address themes like production, consumerism, capital and industrial power.

In Hin's opinion the modern world is a place of contradictions, where the spectacle dissolved social values in order to create illusions and false beliefs. In the twisted web of new relationships, mass media created the perfect scenery for a superficial manifestation of values. These false values appear to gain power against natural social encounters and personal queries, the latter being replaced by mass production fethishization.

Superzeroes is the last of HIN expression of the absurdity of people’s beliefs. Big part of our modern society seems to have become a faded comic, as the pages have yellowed. Starting to create convictions and illusions, people stop exploring, stop questioning, relying on external powers. Superzeros are the social schemes we live in, where we think we cannot escape from, they are branded clothes and pop television, politics and religions.

A strong dose of sarcasm lies on the surface of the Superzeroes works. This is the artist's way to address concern related to the way we approach life, or the way life approaches us. Hin asks his public to step back for a moment, stop and decide whether NOW is the time for change, the time to empower new beliefs and new creations. The spectacle is what we make happen; a journey starting from the inner self where we all can decide whether we want to be the ‘Hero’ or remain the ‘Zero’.
