Perceptions of the Moving Body is a WASP event which brings an experimental perspective of the body in an interdisciplinary context. The night will include video installations, live performances, conversations and active participation, bringing the audience in the middle of a complex approach of the body, forcing them to go beyond the limits of visibility, stepping in the field of the senses and experiment as well as bringing them to an analytical and scientific view of the subject.
The evening opens with a conference coordinated by Dr. Valentina de Piante Niculae (choreographer, performer, teacher and researcher of somatic fields) and Dr. Radu Pop (doctor, Eisenhower fellow, founding member of the Group for Sciences at the Border), the first from a series of meetings which will discuss contemporary and transdiciplinary themes of the body, science and consciousness, with the purpose of creating a flow of knowledge and experiential practices, necessary in an equal extent for artists, scientists and everyone of us. The meeting has the purpose of opening a dialogue between somatics, neuroscience and body practice as well as between the consciousness of body-mind and spirituality, putting the focus on the body with a complex perception orientated inside and outside at the same time.
Although at a first sight we would be tempted to say that it is 'only' movement, at a more profound analysis we realize that movement means movement patterns, neurological mirrored structures corresponding the mental and emotional ones, body consciousness, the ability to be present and aware of our emotions, actions and thoughts. Our self-image is in a perpetual transformation as it adapts in accordance with the most diverse and profound experiences of our body. Movement allows the passing to a different perspective of the body: its liquid and cellular dimension, an infinite field of information that interweave and change our perception and way of being.
The meeting will be structured in 4 parts: a body practice presentation, followed by a discussion led by Dr. Valentina De Piante about the body-mind concept. This will be further developed by the vast vision of an international known scientist, the neuro-surgeon Dr. Radu Dop, which will talk about how antic oriental disciplines meet now with contemporary perspectives of neurosciences, arriving to the concept of body-mind-spirit triad. In the 4th part of the evening, the audience will become the active participant of a movement laboratory.
Starting with 19h, in our exhibition spaces two provocative video installations will be on, both putting movement and body in unusual perspectives, challenging the limits of our perception.
ESKAZISER - video installation / Directors: Andrea Lerner, Rosane Chamecki / Choreographer: chameckilerner
With a powerful statement on movement and esthetics of a beautiful body, the Brazilian choreographers Rosane Chamecki and Andrea Lerner filmed a samba dancer in super slow motion. What you will see will forever change the way you perceive the body in motion.
AMAUROS -video installation / Director: Nicole Seiler / Chorepgrapher: Nicole Seiler
Is it possible that by eliminating all the visual elements from a movie, to still have a movie? "Amauros" provokes us to reconsider the imaginary in dance.
Audio Description is a procedure that makes films, shows and exhibitions accessible to blind or visually impaired audiences, thanks to a voice off-stage that describes the visual elements of the work. For Amauros, Séverine Skierski, an audio-describer specialising in cinema and theatre, recorded several descriptions of choreographies. These descriptions are subject here, and are shown as an installation by director Nicole Seiler.
The whole night is centered around the perception of the moving body, taking the audience almost by hand and passing them through a series of different states with the purpose of directing them to a rethinking of the body and the ways in which we move. We watch a body in motion, we discuss its impulses and connections, we place everything in a scientific and historical context, we experiment with our own body, we reach inaccessible dimensions with the help of technology, we feel and imagine movement in the absence of visual and kinesthetic stimuli - a roller-coaster between interior and exterior, subjectivity and objectivity, sensoriality and lucidity.
